How Does LED Lighting Affect Our Health and Productivity?

Hi everyone! I am pleased to announce that we will soon be unveiling a new component to our weekly blogs. They will include before and after pictures of our projects and will talk about the energy savings we are able to bring to our clients. This week, I want to talk about some of the lesser known benefits of LED lighting.

Recent studies have found that the majority of America’s workers are employed in data or “thinking” fields. Therefore keeping these workers healthy, happy and productive is in the best interest of all of us. Something as simple as lighting can make a big impact.

There has been shown to be a direct correlation between higher temperatures and reduced productivity. Most of us start to feel sleepy and sluggish when the space we work in is too warm. LED bulbs actually put out light at a much lower temperature than older bulbs.

Another advantage of LED bulbs is related to vision. With so many of us staring at screens for hours at a time, the right lighting is critical. Our perception of our environment is created 80 - 85% visually. This means that not only can LED lights affect how your customers perceive your business, it can make a big difference to the people working in that environment. A study conducted by the American Society of Interior Design found that 68% of employees had specific complaints about the lighting in their workplace.

Lighting that is too dim can lead to eyestrain and headaches as the eyes have to work harder. Harsh lighting, which is usually the case with fluorescent bulbs, also causes eyestrain and has even been attributed to migraines. Switching to LED lighting can lead to healthier, more energized people and reduced energy costs. What could be better?
